I've repositioned the PVC pipe support to now drill the many 1/8 inch holes for the epoxy to grip. I made several holes line up and drilled them at the same time using a lot of lubricating oil to cool the bit while drilling. Since the drill bit cut in and drilled easily without much force there was no pressure on the tube to warp it. If I had felt stress on the tube and had trouble I would have slowed down and made sure the position of the PVC spacer was in perfectly in place. But this went easily and I was finished in a few short minutes.
